
Volvo Cars of North America LLC will put its first U.S. plant in South Carolina, not Georgia.
The Swedish automaker said it will invest $500 million to build a factory in Berkeley County, S.C., that will employ 4,000.
It said in a statement it picked South Carolina for "its easy access to international ports and infrastructure, a well-trained labor force, attractive investment environment and experience in the high tech manufacturing sector."
