Georgia banks post $661 million profit in first quarter

The Peach State’s 205 state-based FDIC insured banks earned $661.1 million during the first quarter -- more than $71 million more than they did in the same quarter of 2014, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. For the quarter, 62.9 percent of the state’s banks posted increased earnings for the quarter, and 86.8 percent were profitable overall.
