
A bill reducing Georgia's income tax while raising the sales tax was introduced Monday in the state House of Representatives.
The most far-reaching tax reform legislation lawmakers have undertaken in three years would drop the state income tax from 6 percent to 4 percent during a three-year period starting in 2016.
Georgia's sales tax would increase from 4 percent to 5 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2017.
The legislation also would charge sales taxes on groceries in Georgia for the first time in decades…
